Durham Luniere

Sunday at the Lumiere light festival was, I would say, a nightmare. It was thick fog, not good for photograpy; packed solid with people, queues a mile long, one way system that made you have to walk miles further than you needed. I was very disapointed with my photos, especially of the lightshow on Durham Cathedral (because of the fog you could see the trail of the lasers and the visibility was not good either).
The rest of the time i tried to take things hand held as there was no room to put your tripod. Don't think i'll be back again. Thank goodness i went in 2009 and saw a lot more and got a lot more shots.

On the causeway

Holy Island is only accesible from the mainland at low tide by means of a causeway, which can be reached from the village of Beal. To the south of the more modern road-surface causeway, a series of stakes mark the old route across to the island called the `Pilgrims Way' which was used in ancient times by visitors to the Christian centre of Lindisfarne. Again this could be crossed only at low tide.
