Waiting for the sun

Spring flowers (Fritillaria imperialis prolifera) waiting for the sun. Unfortunately I don't know what these are. I think they maybe some sort of lily but not quite sure. If anyone can tell me what they are then please let me know.

Spring Lambs

A shot of some baby lambs, only a few weeks old, at play. They are so cute when they jump around.

Wylam

The 1st photo show a small stone cottage, built around 1750, which was the birthplace of railway pioneer George Stephenson. Stephenson was born here in 1781, and went on to make his name at nearby Wylam colliery. The cottage was once home to four pitmen's families, and the room in which Stephenson was born, and in which the whole family lived can be seen today, furnished in period style.

The 2nd & 3rd photos show Wylam Train Station. Wylam station is one of the oldest stations in the world still in passenger use.

April Showers

After such a lovely sunny day yesterday this is what is to greet us this afternoon. I've just taken a snapshot out my window to show you how changeable the weather is here where I live.

Spring

I went out for a ride to Wylam today. It was a nice day, even though last night it had been snowing a litle, today was cool but sunny. It was 5 degrees C when i left home and 23 miles later at Wylam the temperature had risen to 14 degrees. Consett, where I live is so high above sea level we always seem to be colder here. Anyway when I got to Wylam I was amazed at most of the trees were blooming, unlike Consett where they are just starting to get buds on. You wouldn't believe the difference.

I took these shots with my little compact camera.

St Andrews Church & Hopper Mausoleum

"At Grey Mare Hill, near Kilnpit Hill, to the east of the A68 to Consett, there is a remarkably little-known building called the Hopper Mausoleum. It stands on a hill with very good, almost all-round, visibility particularly to the south and south west, in the churchyard of St Andrew’s church, which is managed by the Historic Churches Trust. The Church dates from 1769, but was restored following subsidence, in 1892.

The memorial was built by Humfrey Hopper of Black Hedley in 1752 as a memorial to his wife. He was later buried there and details of his descendants were engraved in the building erected in a neo-Classical style, complete with niches, statues, pinnacles, iron railings and more. It was restored c1977 but has now been partly vandalised. It remains an imposing monument, accessed only by a signposted footpath on the south side of a minor road to Whittonstall." Sunderland

I had a little trip out tonight after work to Sunderland to take the Empire Theatre all lit up. As always, loads of cars around but still managed to get some shots.

Newcastle & Gateshead Quayside

I've been going through some old photos I took earlier this year of The Quayside and decided to re-work them as HDR images. I quite like the results. It's very windy and raining today, not good weather for outdoor shots, hence my looking through some old shots to play with for today. Hope you like them.
